Fatty and Sugary foods.

Try to: Choose low fat sugar alternatives, eating only small amounts and use spreads and oils sparingly.

Try to: Eat moderate amounts of these foods, choose lean meat and trim all visible fat from it. Eat fish at least twice a week, and include a portion of oily fish such as mackeral or salmon.

Try Not to: Fry meat or fish, or add fat to those which are already rich in oils. Grilling, poaching, steaming, stir frying and oven roasting are all healthier options.

Milk and Dairy products.

The main nutrients obtained from this group are calcium, magnesium, protein and vitamins B and A.

Try to: Eat moderate amounts of these dairy products, choosing reduced fat versions, such as semi skimmed milk or low fat yoghurt.

Try Not to: Consuming large amounts of full fat varieties of cream, milk, cheese and butter. Skimmed milk is as good a source of calcium as whole milk.
