For many people Overcoming Insomnia is their holy grail, that one problem that if they could only cure, would make life so much better. So I decided to write this post in the hope it would help people Overcoming Insomnia in their lives.
My Dad suffered with insomnia for most of his adult life, Hooked on sleeping pills that turned his sleep disorder into full blown chronic Insomnia. So when in my twenty’s, I started having sleeping problems. I made a promise to myself to not go down the sleeping pills road. Instead I researched, the different causes and treatments for Insomnia.
Stressing Out Causes Insomnia
Stress is the number one cause for Insomnia. Weather it be the Job, a relationship, an Addiction or something else your stressing over. learning to let go and cope with your stress goes a long way to overcoming Insomnia. Things you can do to beat stress include:
- Accept who you are. No body’s perfect and acknowledging this will take pressure of yourself. Take someone you look up to and admire, then identify their weaknesses. See how they work around it? They don’t dwell on what they can’t do, but concentrate on what they do best. Follow their example and do the same
- Keep a journal/diary. Writing down our problems usually have the ability to make our problems seem not as big or as bad as they seemed. Also use it to plan your day, making to do lists and setting yourself realistic targets. Concentrate on today and you’ll be overcoming Insomnia in no time.
- Eat A Healthy Diet. Having a Health Balanced Diets is essential to overcoming Insomnia. 5 Small meals a day helps support your body better than one large meal. See my old post on achieving a balanced diet.
- Learn To Relax. Whatever helps you to relax, make time each day for a little you time. If you find yourself getting stressed out, take a time out and do whatever it is that relaxes you. If this is inconvenient, say at work, then I recommend learning some breathing techniques for relaxation. In fact I would recommend everyone to learn some. But especially those overcoming Insomnia. Treatments For Insomnia.
- Sleeping pills. As mentioned briefly earlier in this post, I watched my Dad hooked for years on sleeping pills, His symptoms of his addiction were, depression, an hangover, aggressiveness, an high tolerance and poor concentration. Those are just the ones of the top of my head I remember. Oh and the withdrawal symptoms almost killed him. Definitely not recommended for overcoming Insomnia.
- Hypnosis and Meditation. Believe it or not this is actually what I used for overcoming Insomnia. There are many Hypnosis CD’s for insomnia out there on the Internet, and i’m not saying some aren’t scams.
